Elgin Vineyard to host citywide prayer meeting May 3

Local churches of many denominations will unite in prayer for this nation on Thursday, May 3, at the National Day of Prayer observance at Vineyard Church of Elgin, 220 Division St.

The prayer meeting runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and all are welcome to attend.

The National Day of Prayer, created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress, encourages Americans to pray for the nation - for its leaders and families.

In cities and towns across the country, churches come together to pray on the first Thursday in May.

This year's theme is "Pray for America: Unity."

In Elgin, the citywide observance of the National Day of Prayer has been held at different churches over the years, organized through the efforts of Sheila Straka of Light & Life Ministries.

At Elgin Vineyard on Sunday, April 29, the Rev. Tom Severson continues his series in Galatians with an encouraging message titled "The Gospel and New Life."

Services begin at 9 and 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome, with free coffee offered at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
