Register now for Money Smart Week programs

Did you know the state of Illinois might be holding unclaimed cash for you? Drop by the informational table at the Dundee Library any time between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and a representative from the Illinois State Treasurer's Office will show you how easy it is to file a claim.

A program on estate planning will be offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee. A representative from Mooney Lyons Financial Services in South Barrington will discuss the common mistakes with wills and trusts and how to avoid them, preserving more of an estate for your heirs, how to keep an estate out of probate, benefiting from trust and charitable giving strategies, and ways to reduce state taxes.

"Understanding Medicare: The A, B, C and D's" will be offered by Assured Concepts Group Ltd. from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Randall Oaks Library, 500 N. Randall Road in West Dundee. Get the facts about what Medicare does and does not cover, learn the differences between parts A, B, C and D, understand the costs for each parts.

Mike Heatwole of The Dala Group will present "Filing for Social Security: Flexibility and Choices for Your Retirement Income" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Dundee Library. Find out about the different filing options available to married couples, divorced individuals, and widows, which can often provide monthly lifetime social security payments higher than the standard filing options that are typically selected, in this program sponsored by Waddell & Reed Financial Advisors. Workbooks will be provided to each attendee.

A member of the Illinois State Treasurer's Office will discuss "Bright Start" from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Dundee Library. Do you want to start a college fund for a child you know? Sign up for this informational session, presented by a representative from the Illinois State Treasurer's Office. A 15-minute presentation will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
