Local organizations come together to preserve Batavia's rich history

Batavia is home to many organizations that are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the unique qualities of the city and are working together to bring an amazing week of preservation-minded events to the public April 22-28.

During Preservation Week, the public can select from a variety of programs being offered throughout the community. Learn more about family heirlooms and how to preserve them, choose from two Batavia walking tours, or even add your family's story to Batavia's collected history at the Depot Museum.

• Sunday, April 22 - The Batavia Historical Society will host an Antiques Appraisal Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lodge at Laurelwood, 800 N. River St. Cost is $10 per item or three for $25. Get your tickets online.

• Monday, April 23 - The Batavia Public Library presents "Preserving Family Heirlooms" program at 7 p.m. at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Free. Register online through the library or call (630) 879-1393, ext. 2.

• Tuesday, April 24 - The Batavia Park District presents "Dating Photography through Clothing" at 6 p.m. at the Lodge at Laurelwood, 800 N. River St. $10. Register online through the park district, or call (630) 879-5235.

• Wednesday, April 25 - Batavia Main Street will present "Downtown Properties Historical Walking Tour" at 5 p.m. Cost is $8. Meet at Water Street Studios. Register online or call (630) 761-3528.

• Thursday, April 26 - Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley presents "Antebellum Houses in Batavia" at 7 p.m. at the Bartholomew Room at the Batavia Civic Center. Cost is $5. Register online or pay at the door.

• Saturday, April 28 - The Batavia Depot Museum and Burnham Creative Group presents the "Batavia Memories Preservation Project" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Bartholomew Room at the Batavia Civic Center. Free. Register online and reserve your time slot, or call (630) 406-5274.

• Saturday, April 28 - Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley will offer a walking tour of east side homes at 2 p.m. Meet at the northeast corner of Wilson and Van Buren streets. Cost is $5. Register online or pay at the door.
