Literacy Connection to host annual Trivia Bee April 28

See 20 teams compete for bragging rights at the Literacy Connection's Trivia Bee fundraiser on Saturday, April 28, in the Fox River Room at Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the contest starts at 9:30 a.m.

Admission to be an audience member is $7 and includes refreshments. A cash bar is available.

There will be multiple opportunities to win raffle baskets, the grand prize raffle provides three chances to win, the first being two mezzanine tickets to "Hamilton" on Tuesday, July 17; the second is two tickets to see the Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, June 11, in Milwaukee with a hotel certificate; or third $250 in cash. Tickets cost $10 each or $20 for three.

A separate raffle will offer four tickets to the Cubs vs. Phillies game (upper box infield) on Wednesday, June 6, with parking; a $230 value. Tickets cost $20 each.

Winners need not be present. Buy tickets at The Literacy Connection office on the second floor at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. The office is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. You also can purchase raffle tickets at the event. Pay by cash or check only.

All proceeds from the event support Adult Volunteer Literacy programs, as well as English conversation groups. More than 8,900 instructional hours were provided by volunteer tutors for the agency's Adult Volunteer Literacy program in fiscal year 2018.

The Literacy Connection is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community-based affiliate of ProLiteracy and serves 16 northwest suburban Chicago communities including Algonquin, Bartlett, Carpentersville, Cary, Elgin, South Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hanover Park, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Streamwood, and Schaumburg.
