District 212 STEAM Fair attracts parents and community members

STEAM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering, art and math. In keeping with that concept, the fair showcases a variety of diverse and exciting projects that represent the five STEAM elements.

A total of 54 students district-wide created 33 projects that included a wearable LED hat that displayed a variety of images, computer numerical control (automated) machined wallets, a 3D printed violin and cello, several art displays and an explanation of how a juicer works. Parents and community members were able to browse the exhibits and ask students questions about their projects.

"The exhibit revealed exciting projects created by students who applied STEAM elements of science, technology, engineering, art, and math," says Frank Holthouse, Director of Careers and Community Outreach. "Because the fair took place during parent teacher conferences, it gave parents and community member the opportunity to see the great projects the students have worked on this year."

Holthouse added that "students benefited from practicing their soft skills by presenting their work to an audience outside of the traditional classroom experience."
