Harper to hold Community Day celebration April 14

Harper College will throw a party Saturday, April 14 - a party it has been planning for more than 50 years - and everyone is invited.

"In planning Community Day, we tried to create experiences and activities that would interest everyone," said Amie Granger, the community relations manager at Harper College. "This is our opportunity to say 'thank you' to our entire community and invite them to celebrate with us."

Community Day features something for everyone, from the College and Career Expo for kids, to campus tours, adult workshops, sports, art exhibits, tours and more.

The day kicks off with the annual College and Career Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The expo is a free education and career exploration fair for students in grades four through eight and their families. It features dozens of hands-on activities and demonstrations intended to inspire and excite.

A variety of campus tours will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including walking, art or motorized tours.

If art is more your interest, don't miss the Harper alumni art exhibit, which will run from noon to 6:30 p.m., with a reception from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Admission to the exhibit is free.

Inspire U will include a series of free mini-classes and musical performances for adult learners. Inspire U runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

Harper alumni will gather from 2 to 5 p.m. for an all-class reunion in the Duchossois Family Educational Center, Building D. All former Harper students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Athletics events include the women's Harper Hawks softball team vs. Triton College at noon and an Alumni Soccer Game and Kids Clinic from 1 to 2 p.m. Both events are free.

Community Day will conclude with the Harper Ensemble Theatre Company Alumni's Encore II Performance at 7 p.m. The event will revisit scenes and songs from 50 years of musical theater, with select performances from some of Harper's most gifted performing arts alumni.

Encore II will be held in the Performing Arts Center. There is a $15 suggested donation to attend Encore II. Call (847) 925-6100 to reserve tickets.
