Community Service Award Nominees Sought by Buffalo Grove Rotary

Nominations are currently being sought by the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove for the Bill Reid Community Service Award. Nominees should demonstrate a strong commitment to the Buffalo Grove community, similar to that of Bill Reid, who was a longtime resident and Village trustee, and affectionately known as 'Mr. Buffalo Grove'. Reid passed away in 2000 and the award established in his honor was first given out in 2001.

In addition to serving as an elected official, Reid was also a charter member of the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club and an active community volunteer. He was an educator for 30 years and held several positions within Township High School District 214, including as an assistant principal. Reid was known for continually investigating new and creative ways to improve Buffalo Grove and the quality of life for all residents.

"The spirit and passion that Bill Reid personified is still alive in Buffalo Grove; there are many unsung heroes who deserve to be honored for their long-term commitment to our great Village," said Dane Bragg, committee chair person and Buffalo Grove Rotary immediate past president. "We are asking our community members to nominate individuals who personify this type of passion and dedication for Buffalo Grove."

Individuals are asked to submit nominations by June 1, 2017. Nominations can be mailed or delivered to: Village Manager, 50 Raupp Boulevard, Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089, Attn: Dane Bragg, chairperson, or via email to dbragg@vbg.org. A written summary of the nominee's community service activities in Buffalo Grove should be included, and any other supporting letters, statements or documentation to support the nomination. Nominators are also asked to secure a written "second" to the nomination prior to submitting the form.

The award recognition will include a public ceremony with a presentation of a recognition plaque, a $500 contribution to the charity of the award recipient's choice in the recipient's name, and a $500 contribution in the recipient's name to The Rotary Foundation. The recipient's name will also be inscribed on the permanent award recognition plaque located in the Buffalo Grove Village Hall.

The presentation of the award is tentatively scheduled to occur at the July 4th Rotary Village Green Concert, but will be based on the recipient's availability. Help the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club by nominating a candidate for the annual Bill Reid Community Service Award!
