Vintage Rides cruising back into downtown Wheaton

Classic cars, trucks and motorcycles of all makes will be the featured attraction when the Downtown Wheaton Association sponsors "Vintage Rides" on Friday nights this summer in the city's central business district.

The vehicles will be on display from 6 to 9 p.m. starting May 18 and continuing through Aug. 31.

Because of improvements taking place on Front Street, the event will move south of the train tracks to Hale Street, between Liberty and Willow streets. Space for cars will be limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The street will be closed at 5 p.m. to allow classic cars to arrive and park, and the show begins at 6 p.m.

Some downtown restaurants will be selling treats and there will be a DJ spinning tunes.

The show has a different theme each week:

• May 18: Welcome Back Night.

• May 25: Piano Night: Billy Joel & Elton John.

• June 1 and 2: Easy & Mix (these shows will be on North Hale Street, between Front and Wesley, to accommodate the Taste of Wheaton carnival).

• June 8: Country

• June 15: Movie Themes

• June 22: '70s Corvette

• June 29: '80s & '90s

• July 6: Country

• July 13: Tom Jones & Tommy and the Shondells

• July 20: Smooth/Summer

• July 27: Kenny Rodgers

• Aug. 3: R&B

• Aug. 10: Country

• Aug. 17: Disco

• Aug. 24: Southern Rock

• Aug. 31: Last Night Blow Out
