Author to give keynote address at annual Project HELP Breakfast May 8

The third annual Project HELP "Community Begins at Home Breakfast: Changing the Arc of a Life" will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn.

Steve Pemberton, a pioneering corporate executive, visionary youth advocate and best-selling author, will keynote the breakfast.

Pemberton's powerful story is about defying the seemingly insurmountable odds of the path of the unchosen. Orphaned into foster care, he was abandoned and betrayed by the very individuals entrusted with his care. Yet these challenges only fueled his desire to become what he never had and in so doing find success as a trail-blazing corporate executive, enlightened people leader and acclaimed speaker.

His best-selling memoir, "A Chance in the World," recounts his triumphant life journey and drive to become a man of resilience, determination and vision. Now an upcoming major motion picture, "A Chance in the World" further amplifies his highly motivational messages: Believe in your dreams, rise above obstacles, create opportunities for others, and most of all, persevere.

Peggy McGuire, director of child and family development at Project HELP, is honored to have Pemberton at the annual event to share his journey, wisdom and inspiration. "When we live our lives as loving human beings, with eyes wide open, both small and large gestures of kindness can change the trajectory of a person's life. This is Steve Pemberton's incredible story. This is the mission of Project HELP every day."

Project HELP has been serving the community since 1992 using an evidence-based, home-visitation program helping parents improve their understandings of child development, learn how to parent more effectively, improve their ability to identify and manage situational stress, strengthen their social support networks, and increase their ability to identify, find, and access services to meet their family's basic needs.

Each attendee will receive a copy of Steve Pemberton's book, "A Chance in the World: An Orphan Boy, a Mysterious Past, and How He Found a Place Called Home." The author will be available to sign copies of his book after breakfast.
