Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley needs tutors

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will host a four-session tutor training workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, April 16-25, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

The workshop will teach what you need to know to help an adult learn English and assimilate to life in central Kane County.

Trained tutors are matched with adult students one to one. Pairs meet for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient such as public libraries. Tutors get guidance and support whenever they need it from program staff.

From week to week, tutors see their students become more comfortable and fluent in English, which makes a big difference in their lives.

Most of Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley's adult students have come from other countries to live in safety, send their children to good schools, and contribute to our economic well-being. With a little help, they can be more productive, engaged members of our community.

Tutors also benefit as they learn about other cultures and broaden their perspectives.

Residents who are interested in registering for tutor training can visit www.lvfv.org or call/text Peg at (630) 584-4428.

The training session will be offered again from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 8-17, at the library.
