'American Voices' concert April 29 to be inspired by composers, authors

Elmhurst Choral Union and Orchestra will present the varied experiences of American composers and authors in "American Voices" at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College.

Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, Thomas Jefferson, and traditional texts provide the inspiration.

Conductor Scott Uddenberg leads the chorus and a professional orchestra in Howard Hanson's "Song of Democracy," Randall Thompson's "The Testament of Freedom" and "Frostiana," and Morten Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna."

Elmhurst Choral Union Chamber Singers will perform Eric Whitacre's "Sleep."

All the music has been written in the past 80 years. Lauridsen and Whitacre are popular composers still writing music.

Tickets are $25, $23 for seniors, or $10 for youth, age 7 to 22.

Tickets are available from elmhurstchoralunion.org, (800) 838-3006, or at the door.

Elmhurst Choral Union is an outstanding auditioned chorus performing classical masterworks and great choral music of all eras.
