District 214 earns outstanding financial reporting honor

The Association of School Business Officials International recently awarded High School District 214 with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Association of School Business Officials International International's Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting recognizes districts that have met the program's high standards for financial reporting and accountability. District 214 earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2017.

District 214 has applied for and won the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report each time it has been submitted since fiscal year 2009. The Certificate of Excellence validates that the district is effectively and prudently managing public funds and shows it has met or exceeded the program's high standards for financial reporting and accountability.

"The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting's mission is to promote and recognize excellence in financial reporting, specifically through a district's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report," Association of School Business Officials International Executive Director John Musso says. "The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report informs parents and other stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communications tool for building trust and engaging with the school community."

By participating in the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency. Applicants submit their Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for review by a team of professional auditors, who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report meets the requirements of the program, the document may receive the Certificate of Excellence. A district's participation in the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.
