ECC debuts newly redesigned Elgin.edu

Elgin Community College has launched its newly redesigned website today. The initiative was a result of extensive planning, design and development, with institution-wide collaboration between ECC's marketing and communications department, admissions, information technology and many other departments in the college who have been closely involved in the content creation, implementation and feedback process.

"ECC's website, elgin.edu, was redesigned to create a visually appealing, user-friendly website that aids in student recruitment and outreach to the community as a whole," said Derek Pasnick, director of web services. "Roughly 30 percent of traffic to the college's website comes from mobile phones and tablets, which is why making the new website responsive to all devices was important to the college. In addition, the website is accessible for individuals with visual and hearing impairments."

The website's newly updated layout features a simple global navigation bar at the top for users looking for a specific section of the website and an audience navigation, catered to future students, current students, parents, business and community members, alumni and faculty and staff.

It also has call-out sections for users seeking immediate access to popular information, and an intuitive search function.

During the planning and design phase, ECC's web services team held several focus groups with students, faculty, staff and administrators to ensure a positive experience for all potential visitors to the website. New pages and additional features will be added later this spring.

"After months of hard work and cross-functional collaboration, we're excited to launch the newly redesigned elgin.edu," said Pasnick. "We are proud of the new website, and believe users will find it to be engaging, welcoming and informative."
