Stevenson senior chosen to attend U.N. summit in Austria

Submitted by Adlai E. Stevenson High School

Stevenson High School senior Ananya Pati has been selected by the federal government to participate in a United Nations-sponsored youth forum at the 61st session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria, March 12-16.

The Buffalo Grove resident will attend workshops in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Youth Forum, which takes place during the first three days of the overall session. The forum brings together young people from around the world to discuss drug use prevention.

This is the latest honor for Pati, who last fall was named Advocate of the Year by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America. She is the youngest award winner in the group's history. Pati has been a four-year member of the Catalyst Club, and also has been involved with the Stand Strong Coalition.

Most recently, she has been among the students working with state Sen. Julie Morrison of Deerfield to pass legislation that would raise the minimum age for the use and purchase of tobacco and tobacco products to 21.
