MHS music department to host 53rd annual Mundelein Invitational

The Mundelein High School Instrumental Music Department will host the 53rd annual Mundelein Invitational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in two locations at the high school: the MHS Auditorium and the MHS band rehearsal room. Admission is $5 for the day.

Twenty-three jazz groups from Illinois and Wisconsin will perform for judges, in addition to the Mundelein Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Combos. An awards ceremony will take place at 5:40 p.m.

The groups performing in the auditorium include Jones College Prep Jazz Combo, Mundelein High School Jazz Orchestra, Grant High School Jazz Ensemble, Woodstock High School Jazz Ensemble, Carmel Catholic High School Jazz Ensemble, Libertyville High School Jazz Lab Band, Glenbard South Jazz Band II, Prospect High School Jazz Band II, Willowbrook High School Jazz Ensemble II, Maine West Jazz Ensemble, Fond du Lac High School Jazz I, Warren Township High School Jazz Ensemble, Glenbard South Jazz Band I, Prospect High School Jazz Band I, Libertyville High School Jazz Ensemble, Willowbrook High School Jazz Ensemble I, Urbana High School Jazz Band and the Mundelein High School Jazz Ensemble.

Performances taking place in the band room include Fremont Middle School Sixth Grade Jazz Band, Fremont Middle School Seventh Grade Jazz Band, Fremont Middle School Eighth Grade Jazz Band, Carl Sandburg Middle School Jazz Band, Carmel Catholic High School Jazz Combo, Urbana Middle School Jazz Band and Mundelein High School Jazz Combos.

Guest artists Merge Quintet, will perform from 12:40-1:40 p.m.

Andrew Sturgeon and Jerald Shelato direct the MHS Instrumental Music program.
