Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the NSDAR Awards 2018 American History and DAR Good Citizens Awards

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter located in Libertyville, Il awarded local area middle school students with American History awards for the annual DAR American History Essay contest on February 11, 2018. Each student was required to write an essay on "World War I: Remembering the War to End All Wars" as 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War.

Over 180 essays were received and judged. The 2018 American History Award winners were:

• Katherine Grace Hill from Frassati Catholic Academy, Wauconda, IL

• Pranav Manoj from Fremont Middle School, Mundelein, IL

• Maximilian Robert Olinger from St. Joseph Catholic School, Libertyville, IL

In addition to the American History Awards, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter also awarded the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship to local area High School Students. The DAR Good Citizens and Scholarship Award is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all seniors class students in an accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with the State Boards of Education.

The students selected as the school's DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of Dependability (truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality), Service (cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others), Leadership (personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility) and Patriotism (unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation) to an outstanding degree.

The DAR Good Citizens Award winners were:

• Abigail Mottier from Carmel Catholic High School, Mundelein, IL

• Emily Galley Regan from Libertyville High School, Libertyville, IL

• Tyler Joseph Collins from Mundelein High School, Mundelein, IL

• Kelsey Carrido from Vernon Hills High School, Veron Hills, IL

Awards were presented to each student surrounded by their parents and family members. An Award reception was held and was enjoyed by all following the ceremony.

The Ansel Brainerd Cook NSDAR Chapter strives to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service, and more.
