Cultural Council Celebrates Creativity with Artists' Reception

The Northwest Cultural Council of Barrington will honor four of its artists with a reception from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at the Arlington Green Executive Center, 2101 S. Arlington Heights Rd. in Arlington Heights. Free and open to the public, attendees are invited to meet and greet the artists whose exhibits are featured through Saturday, April 7.

Painters Cheryl Calderon of Elk Grove Village, Doris Hoyt of Prospect Heights, and Roger W. Gates of Lake in the Hills, along with Digital Artist Michael Stone of Arlington Heights, aspire to intrigue the public with their creativity.

"I continue to evolve and grow," says Calderon, who has taught art much of her life, and who credits her teachers and fellow students as her "greatest inspiration."

Hoyt invites attendees to experience her abstract collages, rather than try to interpret them literally. Gates, on the other hand, wishes to appeal to his observers' sense of "thoughtful realism" through his paintings of landscapes.

"I want the observer to participate in my joy, in feeling the warmth of sunshine, the hush of the breeze, the calming flow of the water, and the simple majesty of the scene," Gates explains.

Stone, who uses his technological abilities to the fullest with 3D software, appeals to the observers' imagination and sense of intrigue and mystery.

The reception will include music and light refreshments. Those planning to attend should RSVP to the NWCC by email at: nwcc@att.net.

The Northwest Cultural Council, serving the Northwest corridor, is a non-profit organization. It supports and promotes the work of area visual artists and poets, offering a variety of programs including corporate gallery exhibitions, co-sponsored by businesses, convention and visitors' bureaus, libraries, and hospitals; art competitions to stimulate and promote artists; and poetry readings and workshops.
