Salon Anovin 'Hair Cut-a-Thon' to benefit YWCA Elgin

Salon Anovin in Carpentersville will host a Hair Cut-a-Thon on Tuesday, March 27.

The proceeds from this event will be donated to the YWCA Elgin's educational programs. The Cut-a-Thon will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the salon, 176 S. Western Ave. in Carpentersville.

The Cut-a-Thon will offer the talent of five salon professionals who are donating their time to the cause. Participants will be able to enjoy hors d'oeuvres and beverages while they wait and will receive a shampoo service and haircut for a $30 donation (additional $15 for blow dry service). All proceeds benefit the YWCA Elgin.

Kate Volarath, a longtime YWCA Elgin supporter and owner of Salon Anovin, says, "Several years ago a very good friend of mine and fellow board member of the Multicultural Education Outreach Foundation (MEOF), Aloun Khotisene, introduced me to the YWCA Elgin. I witnessed Aloun's love for the YWCA Elgin as he explained how the nonprofit had helped my Lao community (many of us came here as refugees) and supported MEOF for many years. In addition to their support of the Lao community, I hold the YWCA Elgin near and dear to my heart because of their dedication to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. So when we decided to have a Cut-a-Thon fundraiser, there was no hesitation in choosing the YWCA Elgin as the beneficiary."

Salon Anovin was founded in 2009 by Kate Volarath, a L'ANZA Educator/Healing Artist, with over 25 years of experience.
