Golden Weekend for Ultimate Gymnasts

Tinley Park, IL, Feb. 17-18, 2018: The Girls Junior Olympic athletes from Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee went mining for precious metals at the Women's Midwest Open Feb. 17-18 and they were not disappointed. The event, which was held at the Tinley Park Convention Center, featured athletes from 30 gymnastics clubs from around the Midwest and more than 800 competitors.

Ultimate's highest-level teams represented well, delivering powerful performances on all four events. Each of the participating team members at Levels 9 and 10 finished in the top-ten for individual events and all-around. Individual top-ten finishes are as follows:

L10 Junior

Sylvia Raquel: Vault (9th); Bars (7th); Beam (3rd); Floor (6th); All-Around (5th)

L9 Junior A

Ashley Derrick: Vault (4th); Bars (8th); Beam (8th); Floor (4th); All-Around (7th)

L9 Senior A

Abbie Bosko: Vault (9th); Bars (9th); Beam (9th); Floor (7th); All-Around (8th)

Level 8 athletes in the Senior B division claimed the first golds for Ultimate on Saturday, when Ainslee Cutler was named champion on balance beam and Jordan Ann Scott finished first on both vault and uneven bars. Silver and bronze were also in evidence, adding up to a total of 10 top-three placements for the Level 8 girls and Third-Place Team honors. Individual top-ten finishes are as follows:

Ultimate's Level 7 gymnasts brought home a treasure trove, with 12 top-three finishes in individual events and two all-around titles. In the Junior B division, Jillian Ellenwood added a gold medal on balance beam and a second all-around trophy to her sizeable season cache. In the Senior A division, teammate Emily Chabraja was 14k on floor exercise. Senior B Kaya Bogot took home the gold on balance beam and was awarded her fifth all-around trophy for this season. Harvesting gold, silver and bronze all-around in the Junior A division helped propel the Level 6 team to a Third-Place Team finish. McKenna Cox's combined strength in all four individual events secured the all-around crown, while teammates Alyssah Arends and Caile Painter struck gold on balance beam and floor exercise, respectively. In the Senior A division, Maya Roiland wore gold for both balance beam and floor exercise. Individual top-ten finishes are as follows:

Competing in their last qualifier of the 2017-2018 season, Ultimate's Level 4 athletes tapped a mother lode, finishing with two first-place all-around trophies, 17 top-three placements, and medals for all 12 team members. In the Junior A division, Grace Reimers wrapped up an impressive regular season by earning gold on balance beam and scoring her third all-around trophy. Teammate Camryn Clark added another gold on uneven bars to her collection. Olivia Auriol finished the regular season with her usual flair in the Senior A division with gold on vault and balance beam and also secured her third all-around trophy. Individual top-ten placements are as follows:

Ultimate's Level 3 athletes delivered strong performances across the board, finishing the meet with four gold medals and 18 top-three placements. Kymiah Barkus achieved first for floor exercise and Layla Kadera was champion on both vault and bars. Sienna Szechinski added a gold for vault in the Senior A division.
