Area preschoolers donate over 26,000 books for Bernie's Book Bank

The Goddard School, a nationally acclaimed private preschool and day care that nurtures children, helping prepare them for school, career and life, collected and delivered 26,500 books to Bernie's Book Bank, a nonprofit donation recipient. Bernie's is one of Chicago's largest literacy programs in Chicago.

The 26,500 number is important as the goal for the January book drive was 25,000 books! The total over five years is more than 155,000 books.

Bernie's Book Bank in Lake Bluff empowers at-risk children to read their way to a better life. Two out of three low-income children have no books of their own. Bernie's Book Bank is changing that with 12 books per year for 12 years.

Since 2009, Bernie's Book Bank has sourced, processed and distributed 11 million quality books. Bernie's Book Bank provides new and gently used children's books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers, and school-age children throughout the Chicago area.

The 20 Chicago-based locations of The Goddard School are across Kane, DuPage, McHenry, Cook, Lake, and Will counties.
