Local Coach Helps Lead GLory Kickboxing Superstar to Victory
Last night, Glory Kickboxing celebrated it's 50th fight card at the UIC Pavilion, drawing top fighters from around the world. The main card featured a heavyweight tournament for the number one contender title shot, with Benjamin Adegbuyi (ROM) fighting to maintain his ranking as the top heavyweight contender.
In Adegbuyi's corner was Glenview's very own Flaviu Moldovan, owner and head coach at Ultimate Fighting & Fitness Academy in Prospect Heights. "As soon as the fights were announced, I began studying each fighter: how they move, their favorite combos, their strengths and weaknesses," Moldovan said. "We are ready for war." Before the fighters even made their way to Chicago, Moldovan already had Adegbuyi's game plan for how to win the tournament.
Just four days before the actual tournament was set to take place, Moldovan, Adegbuyi and his team were in the gym preparing for the fight. "There is no magic here. Only hard work," Moldovan said. After Moldovan taught his regularly scheduled classes for the members of Ultimate Fighting & Fitness Academy, he would spend his evenings with Adegbuyi and his team finalizing their strategies and perfecting their techniques. As any of Moldovan's students will tell you, his dedication to his sport and perfection to detail are unlike any other.
On fight night, Adegbuyi won his first fight with a knockout in under 30 seconds of the first round against D'Angelo Marshall (CUW). This advanced him to the final bout where he solidified his number 1 contender position with a referee stoppage in the second round against Junior Tafa (AUS). As the true gentleman he is, Adegbuyi was nothing but humble following both his wins.
