Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the NSDAR Awards a Community Service Award

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, located in Libertyville, IL recognized Paula Carballido on Sunday, February 11, 2018 with the DAR Community Service Award.

Qualifications for the DAR Community Service Award are that the individual must have contributed to the community in an outstanding manner through voluntary heroic, civic, benevolent service, or by organizing or participating in community activities.

Ms. Carballido has met all those qualifications and has been a leader throughout Lake County, IL.

Ms. Carballido and the North Chicago Exchange Club organized and established the Lake County Honor Flight in July 2013. The Honor Flight transports Veterans from World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War to Washington DC to visit the Memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their service members. Since the 2013 inaugural flight, the Lake County Honor Flight has made eleven trips and have sent two hundred seven veterans to Washington DC at no cost to the veterans.

In addition to Ms. Carballido's endless exuberance towards the veterans, she also holds down a full time job and is a member of the North Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals and Lake County State's Attorney Office Citizens Advisory Board.

In Ms. Carballido's words she, "loves serving the community of North Chicago through Americanism, community service, youth and child abuse prevention projects. There is beauty in our seniors, Veterans, and youth!"
