Celebrate composer's 333rd birthday with 'Bach Around the Clock' March 3

On Saturday, March 3, the First United Methodist Church of Elgin will host the premiere of the "Bach Around the Clock" festival, as part of their Concerts for a Cause ministry and in celebration of J.S. Bach's 333rd birthday.

This free 12-hour concert of Bach's music performed by over 200 musicians throughout the day will spotlight all ages performing solo and ensemble versions of his music. The performances will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. All are invited, and yes, there will be cake!

From Suzuki String students to Elgin Symphony Orchestra members, to Heartland Voices, as well as instrumental and vocal groups from area schools, the music will echo in celebration of the lasting gifts that Bach has bestowed upon us.

Come listen to an Austin Pipe Organ, as well as a 7-foot Steinway piano in this magnificent sanctuary, located in downtown Elgin. It's the perfect venue for such a monumental birthday bash.

Several "Bach Around the Clock" events are celebrated in cities around the country in recognition of the genius of Bach.

This concert will feature the amazing musical talent found throughout the Fox Valley and beyond while raising funds in support of mental health awareness. Although the concert is free, a donation at the door will benefit Ecker Center for Mental Health.

Ecker Center's life-changing work has helped thousands in Elgin, St. Charles and Geneva through its advocacy, referral, and psychiatric services.

Most people don't realize it is the number one mental health resource for the Elgin area homeless population.

If you cannot attend the concert but would like to make a donation to the Ecker Center, visit www.fumcelgin.org. Make sure to click on the "Concerts for a Cause" tab.

A light lunch and dinner will be available for purchase. The church is at 216 E. Highland Ave., downtown Elgin. Free parking is available in the city parking deck directly across from the church.

A performance schedule will be posted on the church website. For information, call (847) 741-0038.
