Cary Park District to offer track clinics

The Cary Park District will be hosting three separate track clinics this winter. Each clinic focuses on different components of track and field. The clinics are for children in third through eighth grades and are perfect for athletes who are participating or interested in participating in track and field in junior high or high school.

Registration is accepted online at www.carypark.com or at the Community Center, 255 Briargate Road, Cary. For more information on the Track Clinics, call the Cary Park District at (847) 639-6100.

Sprints, Relays, Hurdles, and Shot Put:

This session will include instruction on proper warm up, running form, starting positions for racing, relay exchanges, hurdles, and shot put. Athletes will focus on at least two events, as well as, general speed drills and conditioning during the session. This clinic will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Briargate School gym, 100 S. Wulff St. Registration is $15 for residents or $20 for nonresidents.

Jumps, Hurdles, and Plyometric Agilities:

This session will include proper warm up, running form, foundational principles of long jump, triple jump, high jump, hurdle warm up and starts. Athletes will learn safe landing and balancing skills critical to plyometric training used in all sports. This clinic will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Briargate School gym. Registration is $15 or residents or $20 for nonresidents.

Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles, Discus, and Non-Impact Strength/Balance:

This session builds on the skills from the first two clinics. It is not a requirement to attend the prior clinics, but it is helpful. The session covers more sprint, jump, and hurdle techniques and drills plus the grip and release of the discus. Also covered will be the cool down and nonimpact strength and conditioning activities that can prevent injury. This clinic will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Briargate School gym. Registration is $15 for residents or $20 for nonresidents.
