Easter Basket Program offered in Palatine Township

Palatine Township is kicking off its annual Easter Basket program, which provides baskets filled with treats, toys and other items for disadvantaged township children ages 10 (on or before April 16, 2018) and younger.

Easter basket donors are currently being sought, and the deadline to register is between Feb. 16 and March 16. Donors will receive information about their recipient's gender and age in early March, and the baskets are due back to the township no later than March 21 to be distributed to recipients in time for Easter.

Individuals can register to be a donor online at palatinetownship-il.gov/easter-basket-donor. Donor registrations can also be downloaded and dropped off or mailed to Palatine Township, c/o Easter Baskets, 721 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, IL 60067.

Suggested items for the baskets include edible treats in their original packaging, small toys, games, hair accessories (for girls), puzzles, books and other items that are age and gender appropriate for the recipient.

It is asked that the donors wrap their baskets in cellophane or another transparent material, and label them to include the recipient's name and the number assigned by the township.

Nominations for in-need children to receive an Easter Basket are also being accepted until March 12. To determine if a child qualifies for the program, email his/her name, along with their school and parent(s) address and phone number to Llindberg@palatinetownship-il.gov. Permission must be received from the parent(s) prior to submitting personal information to the township; self-nominations are not permitted.

"The township was able to provide these special baskets for the Easter holiday to nearly 650 in-need children in 2017," said Palatine Township Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson.

"We are grateful for the generosity shown, and look forward to providing them again to in-need children for Easter."

For individuals who would like to support the program, but are unable to create baskets, donations can be made to the Palatine Township Needy Family Fund. More information on how to donate can be found at palatinetownship-il.gov/people-serving-people/needy-family-fund.
