Annual Lenten Recital Series begins Feb. 25 with St. Charles organist

First Congregational United Church of Christ, 256 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin, will begin its annual Lenten Recital Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. It will feature Mark Edwards, organist at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles. The concert is free and open to the public.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, the church's own Sally Szudy and Jim Hinton will present a selection of mostly 20th-century songs by Vaughn Williams, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Maurice Ravel, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Bill Schnell will assist on piano.

The church will host a Taizé Prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, Chicago organist Robert Woodworth will perform.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, the "Horn and Pipes" concert will feature Mary Jo Neher, horn and Joseph Burgio, organ, performing music by Camille Saint-Saens, Cesar Franck, Arcangelo Corelli, Bernhard Krol, Faust and Jean Sibelius.

At noon Friday, March 30, the concert theme will be "The Suffering Servant: Music for Good Friday." The FCC Chancel Choir, along with a string quintet, will perform a choral work in four movements by K. Lee Scott, based on verses from Isaiah. The program also will include Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus."
