St. Francis plans all-school blood drive

St. Francis High School, together with Heartland Blood Center, this month will host an all-school blood drive.

The blood drive runs 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the school, 2130 W. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton. Teachers Mike Lynch and Shannon Bradt are organizing the annual event with a group of students.

Last year, a record 136 units were collected at St. Francis High School. At this time of year, when donations are typically down due to the cold and flu season, there is an increased need for healthy donors.

Student donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and have their parents' permission. As an incentive for donating, the school administration allows student donors an out-of-uniform day.

"Donating is easy … and a great way to get out of uniform for a day," said senior Daniel Dickerson, who donated last year.

St. Francis High School faculty and friends, as well as the community, are invited to participate.

Although walk-ins are welcome, donors are encouraged to register an appointment time by calling (630) 668-5800, ext. 1193.
