Painter Delights in the Creative Process

Artist and Exhibitor Cheryl Calderon of Elk Grove Village loves the creative process of painting and drawing.

"It is magic," Calderon says. "I continue to evolve and grow. I credit my teachers and fellow students as my greatest inspiration," Calderon adds, who paints nature scenes with vibrant colors.

Calderon is holding an exhibit that runs through Friday, April 6 at Meet Chicago Northwest, 1375 E. Woodfield Rd., Ste. 120, Schaumburg, co-sponsored by the Northwest Cultural Council.

Calderon has taught art for much of her life, and many of her art pieces are in private collections.

An Illinois native, the artist first taught in Wisconsin at Menominee Indian High School and the Sacred Heart Academy in Oneida, after having received degrees in visual arts and art education at the University of Wisconsin.

The artist returned to Illinois in 1982 and taught adult classes in drawing, pastels, and watercolor, also having pursued a career in graphic arts and healthcare.

Currently in retirement, Calderon is a student at Positive Strokes Art School and Gallery in Palatine where she recently exhibited.

The Northwest Cultural Council serving the Northwest corridor, is a non-profit organization. It supports and promotes the work of area visual artists and poets, offering a variety of programs including corporate gallery exhibitions, co-sponsored by businesses, convention and visitors' bureaus, libraries, and hospitals; art competitions to stimulate and encourage artists; and poetry workshops and readings.
