St. Francis High to host annual blood drive Feb. 22

On Thursday, Feb. 22, St. Francis High School in Wheaton will host an all-school blood drive with Heartland Blood Center from 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Teachers Mike Lynch and Shannon Bradt, along with a group of students, are organizing this annual event.

"St. Francis High School is always one of our most successful high school blood drives. It is also a great experience working with everyone involved," said a representative from the Heartland Blood Center.

Last year, a record 136 units were collected at St. Francis High School. At this time of year, when donations are typically down due to the cold and flu season, there is an increased need for healthy donors.

Student donors are required to be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and have their parents' permission.

St. Francis High School faculty and friends, as well as the local community, are also invited and encouraged to participate in this important and lifesaving event.

Senior Daniel Dickerson donated last year and said, "Donating is easy … and a great way to get out of uniform for a day!"

As an incentive for donating, the school administration allows student donors an out of uniform day.

"The blood drive is always a great day for St. Francis High School, said Mike Lynch and Shannon Bradt. "It is truly a communitywide event."
