Chili, cornbread cook-off to benefit Kane County Farm Bureau Foundation

Calling all chili or cornbread recipe holders! Whether your chili is "family-dinner famous" or people flock to your restaurant for a bowl, come help the Kane County Farm Bureau Foundation celebrate National Chili Day on Feb. 22, by participating in the second annual Chili Cook-Off and newly added Cornbread Competition!

The fundraiser helps to provide nine different categories of agriculture scholarships as well as internships throughout the year.

Categories this year are "Best Homestyle Chili," "Best Non-Traditional Chili," "Best Wildlife Chili" and "Best Cornbread."

Chili will be judged based on International Chili Society criteria: good chili flavor, texture, consistency, blend of spices, aroma, and color and the winners will receive trophies and bragging rights!

The chili entry fee is $20 for members or $30 for nonmembers. Cornbread entries are free with chili entry or $5.

Judging starts at 4 p.m. in the Kane County Farm Bureau office, 2N710 Randall Road, a block north of Route 64 in St. Charles.

Winners in each category will be announced before doors open to the public at 5 p.m. Come and graze while supplies last!

A $5 donation will get you six tickets and each ticket will get you a cup of chili or a piece of cornbread. Six tickets will get you a bowl of chili, of your choice, to enjoy at the event or take home.

New this year is the "try before you buy" option where a small spoon is provided for a "taste of chili".

All entry fees and event proceeds benefit the Kane County Farm Bureau Foundation in support of agricultural education and college scholarships.

At the end of the evening, the People's Choice Winner will be chosen based on the number of tickets collected from event patrons. The chili with the most tickets wins!
