Elgin church to offer 'Grace & Chocolate' for Lent

"Grace & Chocolat" is an unusual but tasty series being offered during Lent at First United Methodist Church in Elgin.

The Lasse Hallstrom film "Chocolat" is the basis of an examination of personal piety, legalism, self-righteousness, grace, redemption and other topics appropriate for the season of introspection and repentance.

Each week participants will view a portion of the film, be presented with biblical substance, and invited to share thoughts and ideas. And then there will be chocolate! Lots and lots of chocolate!

Program planners suggest not abstaining from chocolate this year.

All are invited to what is intended to be an enjoyable but quite serious spiritual adventure on five consecutive Sundays starting Feb. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the church's Carleton Rogers Hall, 216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin.
