Candidate Debates Kick-Off in Lake County
Candidate Debates Kick-Off in Lake County
10th Congressional and Lake County Clerk Candidates to Debate February 18
LAKE FOREST, ILL. January 30, 2018 - The League of Women Voters invites the public to candidate debates for two hotly contested races in Lake County in advance of the March 20 primary election. Three Republican candidates for the 10th Congressional District and two Democratic candidates for Lake County Clerk will participate. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear candidates speak about local issues, their positions, as well as ask questions through League of Women Voters moderators.
The three Republican congressional candidates - Douglas R. Bennett (Deerfield), Sapan Shah (Libertyville), and Jeremy Wynes (Highland Park) - have publicized widely differing positions and priorities. Controversial areas the candidates may not agree include infrastructure, Israel, healthcare, tort reform, spending, and the travel ban. As the three candidates have not held office previously, their answers will be important to help voters decide their candidate for the November general election.
The two Democratic candidates for Lake County Clerk, Adam R. Broad (Buffalo Grove) and Robin M. O'Connor (Libertyville), have been active in politics for many years. They have voiced different approaches to improve the clerk's office, which should be of interest to area residents.
The event will take place at the North Shore Unitarian Church (2100 Half Day Road, Bannockburn) at 2:00 p.m.; doors open at 1:30 p.m.
Cosponsoring the debate are four local chapters of the League of Women Voters (Deerfield Area, Glenview/Glencoe, Highland Park/Highwood, and LWV-Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area) and the North Shore Unitarian Church.
