College of DuPage hosts screening of 'Dying to Know' Feb. 19

College of DuPage Human Services faculty member Bruce Sewick, LCPC, CADC, will host a screening of "Dying to Know: Ram Dass and Timothy Leary" at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the Berg Instructional Center, Room 2525 of the college, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

The screening will be followed by a discussion about the mainstreaming of psychedelics.

Directed by Gay Dillingham and narrated by Robert Redford, "Dying to Know" chronicles the work of Harvard psychology professors Timothy Leary, who became an LSD guru, and Richard Alpert, who became a spiritual teacher by the name of Ram Dass.

The free lecture is in advance of Sewick's Psychedelic Mindview course, which he has taught since 2012. Offered this spring from March 14 to May 11, this online course investigates the role of psychedelic substances throughout history and covers clinical research on psychedelic drugs as adjuncts to psychotherapy for the treatment of addiction, PTSD and existential distress at the end of life.

For more information about the Feb. 19 screening and the Psychedelic Mindview course, please contact Bruce Sewick at Sewick@cod.edu. Online registration for the 2-credit Human Services class (HUMAN-1130-NET01) is available at MyAccess.cod.edu.
