ArtReach to stage 'The Jungle Book'

ArtReach Educational Theatre, in partnership with Spotlite Theatrix Production Company, is staging "The Jungle Book" at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, and Saturday, Feb. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 Meadow Lane, Rolling Meadows.

Based on the Rudyard Kipling tale, this play follows the life of Mowgli, a feral child raised by a pack of wolves in the Indian jungle. The tale unfolds as his friends, Bagheera, the panther, and Balou, the bear, try to convince him to leave the jungle before the evil Shere Khan arrives. Instead, Mowgli defies the odds, and works to protect his family.

The show is directed by Dan Walsh and Jonah Parra, both of Des Plaines.

The cast includes: Thomas Tompkins of Mount Prospect as Mowgli; Sofia Jaros of Palatine as Balou; Zoe Morehead of Rolling Meadows as Bagheera; Kevin Foss of Palatine as Shere Khan; Diego Camoacho of Rolling Meadows as Akera; Autumn Rettke of Palatine as Mother Wolf; Julia Barbour of Rolling Meadows as Tabaqui; Natasha Januszewska of Palatine as Kaa; Lincoln Gersch of Palatine as young Mowgli; Ava Hiller of Hoffman Estates as Rann; Jadon and Peyton Hoffman of Palatine as the wolf cubs; Michael Ligda of Palatine as Dori; Noah Riskind of Palatine as Massua; Josh Gilderson as the Wolf; and Theresa McAtee of Wheeling as Hathi.

The mission of ArtReach Educational Theatre is to expose children to all aspects of theater, music and dance. Children ages 5 through high school, from beginner to advanced performing levels with a genuine interest in the arts, are accepted.

ArtReach Education Theatre offers private voice lessons, dance and acting classes, advanced musical theater workshops and Summer Arts Camp programs in Palatine.
