Barrington Park District Donates Socks to The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of The NSDAR

Terry Jennings, executive director of the Barrington Park District organized and implemented a Sock Drive this past December for homeless veterans. Jennings is working with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, in Libertyville, helping to collect socks for the Chicago Stand Down. The Barrington Park District staff and board members collected 184 pairs of socks valued at more than $225 over the holiday season.

Each summer and winter the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of Libertyville, and the District IV Illinois National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution assist at the Summer and Winter Chicago Stand Downs held at the General Jones Amory.

Chicago Stand Down is an event held annually in the summer and winter as an intervention to bring homeless veterans together in a single location to access resources and supplies needed to begin rebuilding their lives. The first Stand Down was developed in 1988, in San Diego by two Vietnam veterans Robert Van Keuren and Jon Nachison and has spread across the country.

Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter continues to collect socks for the Summer and Chicago Winter Stand Down to be held in June and November 2018. We would like the community to join us and help us surpass our number of socks from the 2017 Summer and Winter Stand Downs.
