Gail Borden continues concert series Feb. 1

Gail Borden Public Library will offer concerts for all ages this January and February.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, join the three trombonists of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra as they perform and discuss excerpts from incredible works - including works from Mozart, Brahms and more - in "Choral Masterworks of Vienna: Trombone and Voice, a Viennese Tradition" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meadows Community Room at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin.

From the famous trombone solo in Mozart's Requiem to the transcendent works of Anton Bruckner for chorus and trombones, the great composers have long featured the trombone for the most special moments in their sacred music. It will feature selections by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Bruckner.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, enjoy some Delta, country and Chicago Blues with Chicago Blues Hall of Fame inductee and Old Town School of Folk Music acoustic side guitar teacher Donna Herulda, along with Tony Nardiello, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin.

On Sunday, Feb. 18, enjoy the award-winning Liang-He Piano Duo's synchronicity and unique repertoire at 2 p.m. in the Meadows Community Room at the Main Library. As part of the "Sunday Afternoon Concert Series," meet the artists and enjoy refreshments after the concert. Free tickets are available at the Main Library, Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch three weeks prior to each concert.

Grand prize winner of the 18th Tokyo International Duo Piano Competition, the Liang-He duo has been acclaimed for its combined artistry and synchronicity.

Other accomplishments include winning third prize in the "Liszt 200 International Two-Piano Competition" and being named the Chicago area's first "Young Steinway Artists." The Liang-He Duo, consisting of members Xiaomin Liang and Jue He, is committed to developing a unique repertoire based on exploring the classics of two-piano literature, as well as creating new works through commissions.
