Register for free kids' dental cleanings, exams Feb. 2 at College of DuPage

The College of DuPage Dental Hygiene Clinic will offer free cleanings, school forms, exams and X-rays for school-aged children Friday, Feb. 1, at the Health and Science Center on COD's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The free services are offered in collaboration with the American Dental Association Foundation's Give Kids A Smile Day.

Through the ADA's program, launched nationally in 2003, more than 5.5 million underserved children have received free oral health services.

A limited number of appointments are available at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

The Dental Hygiene Clinic at College of DuPage provides and hands-on experience to students while providing valuable services to the community at a discounted rate.

Accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, the Dental Hygiene Associate of Applied Science degree program at College of DuPage prepares students to provide comprehensive oral health care services in a variety of professional settings.

The Dental Hygiene Clinic features state-of-the-art facilities with 15 fully functioning dental operatories.

Under the supervision of licensed dental hygiene instructors and clinical dentists, students provide preventive dental services, including:

• Children and adult teeth cleaning

• Deep scaling

• Fluoride treatments

• Traditional and digital X-rays

• Teeth whitening

There is a clinic fee of $30, which includes: teeth cleaning, toothbrush, toothpaste sample and floss; traditional and digital X-rays: ranging from $15 to $30; dental sealants at $8 per tooth; and teeth whitening (must be 18 years or older) for $100.

The clinic also offers a 25-percent discount to College of DuPage faculty and employees, as well as seniors age 65 and older. Students, veterans and individuals serving in the armed forces are free.
