Teen Writers & Artists Project host three 'Wordplay' events in January

The Teen Writers and Artists Project will host the next "Wordplay" from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Mooseheart Child City and School, 240 W. James J. Davis Drive, Mooseheart.

Based on the format of the longest running youth open mic in Chicago hosted by YCA every Tuesday night, West Suburban Wordplay recently set up shop at Mooseheart on the first Thursdays.

Stop at the tower as you drive in and someone will direct you at the gate. Bring your friends and family along with your instruments, voices, and creative works to the writing workshop and open mic! (And don't forget to follow @twaap on Twitter or "like" the Facebook page to keep updated.

Show off your talents at our open mic at 7:30 p.m. Or arrive early and take part in the writing workshop led by teaching artists. Workshop participants get priority placement on the open mic list.

The next "Wordplays" will be offered at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at the T-WAAP headquarters, 216 Prairie St. in Elgin, or 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Daily Projects Coffee Bar & Eatery, 124 S. Randall Road in Algonquin.

The "Slammin' the Sun Down: Louder Than a Bomb" Far West Suburban Regionals will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Bartlett High School, 701 W. Schick Road. Cost for a team of up to 5 members is $50; individual slam participants is $10. The cost for audience members is $10 with lunch or $5 without. To register, visit www.twaap.org/slammin-the-sun-down.
