Afternoon tea to feature 'Herstory: Elgin Women' Jan. 14

The Elgin Area Historical Society will present "Herstory: Elgin Women" by Linda Rock from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at State Street Market, 701 N. State St., Elgin.

Learn about the history behind four famous women in Elgin.

Their stories will be told by Linda Rock who dresses in character and takes you on a journey of intrigue and adventure. You also will enjoy a four-course afternoon tea with an abundance of food, tea, scones and desserts. Feel free to come dressed for the occasion.

Tickets are $30 per person.

The menu features: Raspberry Rose Hibiscus Sparkler, tea sandwiches, roast beef with horseradish and sliced cucumber on rye, chicken salad on wheat, salmon and cucumber with cream cheese on white, curried egg salad with mango chutney on white. The tea selections by Harney & Sons include: Tower of London, Chinese black teas with pieces of dried stone fruit, oil of bergamot and honey flavor; or Cherry Blossom Green, green teas and the vibrant flavor of plump, fragrant cherries. The scones and pastries include lemon blueberry scone with clotted cream, macaroons brownie bites, and cake slices with marzipan filling.
