CLC has Guaranteed Transfer Admission program

The College of Lake County has established Guaranteed Transfer Agreements with 23 four-year colleges and universities.

The agreements allow CLC students to transfer their credits seamlessly to any of the four-year institutions, which range from the American Business School in Paris to DePaul University in Chicago to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

"The college has worked hard to ensure that our students have as smooth a path as possible to a four-year degree," said Karen Hlavin, interim provost for student development.

"All of the 23 colleges or universities with which we've partnered have a reputation for high-quality degree programs. Our faculty and staff have collaborated with their counterparts at each school to ensure that the appropriate CLC courses will transfer and to provide specific advising assistance. Some of our partners even offer special transfer scholarships to CLC students," Hlavin said.

Justin Badua, a Round Lake resident who earned an Associate in Engineering Science from CLC in May 2017, is now a computer engineering major at the University of Illinois.

"From a student's point of view, the close collaboration between CLC and U of I removes a lot of the guesswork in transferring," Badua said.

"There's a lot of communication between representatives at each school, and they worked with me to make sure that my transfer was as seamless as possible."

Another CLC graduate who had a smooth transfer to a four-year program is Michael Hannick, a Port Barrington resident who earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in electrical engineering technology from CLC in 2010.

He is pursuing an electrical engineering degree online from Arizona State University while working as an electronics technician at a local brake and electronics supplier to the automotive industry.

"Overall, the transfer process was pretty easy," Hannick said. "Nearly all of my CLC courses transferred to ASU, and I'm well-prepared for the program. At CLC, the electrical engineering technology instructors held us to a high standard and made sure that we had a firm grasp of the material."
