Palatine Jaycees a finalist for Top World Chapter

The Palatine Jaycees were recognized as one of the four best chapters in the world for its 2016 work with one of four Most Outstanding Local Organization awards presented at the 2017 JCI Awards Ceremony at the November JCI World Congress held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Palatine, JCI Ouga Golden, JCI Peninsula and JCI London were the four finalists, with JCI Ouga Golden winning. JCI awarded the top honor to the Ouga Golden chapter of Burkina Faso for its project "March of the Communities," promoting peace and cooperation. Only the winning chapter is recognized individually. The other three chapters are listed as finalists.

In addition to its worldwide recognition, the Palatine Jaycees have now been recognized as the best chapter in the state, nation and in the Americas this past year. The Palatine Chapter was recognized for its work in the community, conducting more than 50 projects, including Hometown Fest, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Tree Sales, Best Pizza Contest, STEM Fair and Art Affair Around the Square.

These projects benefited community members and helped raise money that was donated back to the community.

"We were, and still are, focused on growing our chapter, developing young leaders and spreading goodwill in our community," said Pat DeMarco, 2016 Palatine Jaycee president.

"This past year all of our hard work has been recognized by our peers at the state, national and international levels of the organization. When you look at what other chapters are accomplishing across the world, it is a true honor to be recognized as a finalist."

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has more than 130 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals ages 21 to 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving the community.

The Palatine Chapter holds its monthly general meeting the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.
