Kane County Recycles to collect post-holiday recyclables Jan. 13

Kane County Recycles will hold a special post-holiday recycling event in January.

This collection will include electronics and books. It will take place between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday, Jan. 13, behind the Kane County Branch Court office, 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles.

Electronics collection will include computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, electronic games, holiday light strings and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge. Books (hard and soft covers, any age, any condition, free of cost) are also free to drop off.

TVs (of any size, and any age) and computer monitors also will be collected, but they have a cost. The cost for recycling television sets and computer monitors is $25 for screens under 21 inches, measured diagonally. The cost is $35 for screens 21 inches and over. You can pay on-site with cash or card. Or pay online in advance at www.countyofkane.org/Recycling/Pages/electronics.aspx. You must print the receipt and bring it with you!

Kane County also has two electronics recycling drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week, except for holidays. Drop-off locations include: the former juvenile justice center, 517 E. Fabyan Parkway in Batavia, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and the West Dundee Public Works, 900 Angle Tarn, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The South Elgin location has closed permanently. Note, books are not accepted at the daily drop-off locations.

Kane County Recycles has posted a full schedule of collection events for 2018, which will restart in April.

The remaining dates are:

• April 14 for electronics, books and paint recycling, as well as shredding

• May 12 for electronics and book recycling; no shredding

• July 14 for electronics, books and paint recycling, as well as shredding and more. This is the annual Extravaganza.

• Sept. 8 for electronics and books recycling; no shredding

• Nov. 10 for electronics, books and paint recycling, as well as shredding
