College of DuPage STEM Clubs to host homeschool outreach events in January
The College of DuPage Engineering Club will host two educational events in January aimed at homeschooled children.
An engineering outreach event geared toward homeschooled children in sixth to 12th grade will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, and a space exploration-themed engineering event for homeschoolers in kindergarten through high school will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Both events will be held in the Berg Instructional Center, Room 3559, on the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
"Constantly updating and improving STEM education to meet the needs of different demographics is vital to our society," said COD Engineering Club President Josie Suter. "Revolutionary ideas get nowhere without the power to implement them, and STEM education is the equivalent of equipping our students with super powers."
The programs will include presentations about STEM disciplines and opportunities to learn a technical skill and complete a hands-on project. During the Jan. 15 event, parents may attend an optional seminar on the importance of STEM education that will include a discussion on how to interest their children through experimentation. Parents also will receive a list of resources and fun, age-appropriate projects that can be done at home.
