Des Plaines Kiwanis Club provides 'Shoes for Kids'

The Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines recently completed its annual "Shoes for Kids" event.

Kiwanis members met 110 children at the local Kmart store to shop for new boots or shoes for the winter. Club members and families explored the shelves to find just the right pair for each child. Kmart staff opened a special checkout lane for the occasion.

Funds for the service project were raised through generous community support of the annual Peanut Day fundraiser.

The Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines began serving the community in 1941. The club is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization of members of every age who are dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis family includes the Key Club at Maine West High School.

New members are always welcome. Lunch meetings are Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. at the Elks Club, 495 Lee St. For information, to donate, or to volunteer to help, contact Brenda at (847) 827-3406.
