Dental group to offer free services to Clearbrook residents

In the five years since its inception, DecisionOne Dental's quarterly "A Reason To Smile" campaign has provided half a million dollars in free dental services to more than 500 adults with developmental disabilities.

On Friday, Jan. 5, at its Schaumburg location, DecisionOne Dental teams from across the network will join together again to provide screenings and cleanings for more than 20 Clearbrook residents who may not otherwise receive essential oral health care.

The program was launched in 2013 after the state cut $25 million from dental coverage for adults on Medicaid, denying all adult dental care, except for emergency procedures, such as tooth extractions.

"A longtime patient, whose brother is a Clearbrook client, told me about how hard adults with disabilities were hit by these funding cuts. They were no longer receiving basic dental care like cleanings," stated Dr. AJ Acierno, DecisionOne Dental CEO. "Dental care is not a luxury; it's a necessity and poor oral health can contribute to a host of other issues including heart disease and diabetes. Regular and consistent dental care can work to prevent these major health issues as well as tooth decay and gum disease."

DecisionOne Dental has pledged $100,000 annually toward assisting Clearbrook, a local facility that provides services, programs and support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
