Dec. 20 is first day to request mail ballot for March primary

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham reminds residents that voters who plan to vote in the March 20 general primary election can request an official vote by mail ballot from the Kane County Clerk's Office. Per state law, ballots requested will not be mailed until Feb. 8.

"Voting by mail from the comfort of your home is fast and simple. With a simple request, you can apply to receive the ballot mailed to your home and avoid the possibility of having to wait in line to vote on Election Day." Cunningham said.

Individuals who wish to vote by mail can request an application in one of the following ways:

• Online to kanecountyelections.org/Absentee/absvoting.aspx;

• In person: Kane County Clerk's Office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Building B, Geneva;

• By phone at (630) 232-5990.

Cunningham added, "More than half of the voters who cast a ballot last November voted prior to Election Day, either by mail or at an early voting site. I encourage all Kane County voters to consider voting either by mail or at one of our many convenient early voting locations."

Voters in the March 20, general primary election will determine the Democratic and Republican nominees for offices to be elected at the general election in November 2018.

Offices to be nominated at the general primary election include all statewide officers (Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, and Comptroller), all Representatives in Congress, some state Senators, all state Representatives, some judges, county clerk, county sheriff, county treasurer, regional superintendent of schools, and county board members in odd-numbered districts. Elections for precinct committeeman (Republican and Democratic Party) and State Central committeemen/women (Democratic Party only) will also occur in March.

A list of all local candidates who filed petitions for the March general primary election is available at kanecountyelections.org/Candidates/CandidateList.aspx.
