Marklund Wasmond Center offers a variety of volunteer opportunities

Make a difference in the lives of others this holiday season, and year round, by volunteering at the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin.

Marklund has immediate volunteer opportunities available for teens and adults, age 14 and older, who are interested in assisting with activities, special events and support services.

This holiday season, volunteers are needed to assist residents during a Christmas gift-opening event, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 23, at 1435 Summit St., Elgin. Volunteers also are needed to label gifts and help with the cleanup afterward.

"It's a great way for families, groups, corporate employees and individuals to get involved during the holiday season," said Lisa Esposito, volunteer engagement specialist. "Volunteers tell us how rewarding the experience is, getting acquainted with residents, and seeing the smiles on their faces as they open their gifts."

Marklund offers a wide range of other volunteer opportunities throughout the rest of the year, too, to help Marklund with its mission of making everyday life possible for clients. For example, volunteers can assist with activities, community outings, and special events, and provide administrative support services, like doing computer work and preparing mailings.

Students interesting in earning service hours also can serve at Marklund.

"We welcome anyone who is interested in making difference by giving their time," Esposito said. "By volunteering, you can make a positive impact on the lives of others, while adding meaning to your own life, too."

To sign up for the gift-opening event, or to learn more about volunteering, contact Lisa Esposito at lesposito@marklund.org, or (630) 397-5661.
