God lights the way this season and always

"The true light that gives light is coming into the world."

- John 1:9 (NIV)

I looked out the window at the vast darkness covering my neighborhood.

"It's only 4:30 and darkness is already covering the sky. God is sure pulling down the shade of night early these days," I thought to myself.

But today I see light as I look out my window. Not daylight - but rows of colorful Christmas lights lighting up each house on my corner block. They are strewed across the peaks of houses and adorn evergreen trees. Many are twinkling on garlands as they light up porch banisters.

The light of Christmastime is bringing joy to neighborhoods in every community. Some shine a brilliant white, while others sparkle a variety of color to all who pass by. Men, women and children behold their beauty and splendor as they light their way onto familiar streets and highways.

As the Christmas season approaches, we love the sight of magnificent lights. Just basking in the joy of the Christmas light brings warmth and happiness to our weary souls.

It's a great time to ponder how, without God's light, nothing else would matter. God's light is not only a natural resource of sunlight, but his revelations to our hearts and minds are also considered spiritual light.

God sent his son, Jesus, to the world to light our hearts with peace and joy. As we turn over our sins to him, we can receive God's forgiveness and turn the guilt we carry over to him and leave it there. Forgiveness lights up our souls.

This season, let's give our burdens and grudges over to the only one who has power to forgive. Then our hearts can light up with peace and joy over the true beauty at Christmas.
