Marmion Abbey to host sing-along Messiah Dec. 17

Marmion Abbey church, 850 Butterfield Rd. in Aurora, will host the seventh annual community sing-along "Messiah" by the Fox Valley Orchestra and Chorus at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

The public is invited. Admission is $10. Messiah scores will be available for $10 each.

Lisa Fredenburgh, chorus master and Aurora University music department chair/director of choral activities, will direct.

She said, "Come to sing or listen! Join us for this quintessential holiday tradition as we present part one of Handel's 'Messiah' featuring the the famous 'Hallelujah Chorus'."

Featured performers will be soprano Erica Schuller, mezzo-soprano Stacey Eckert, tenor Stephen Cannon, and bass Timothy Filliman.

Marmion Academy is the presenting sponsor.

Future concerts by the chorus will be "For Love of Song," the group's first a cappella performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, with a 2 p.m. lecture by music historian Jim Kendros, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora; and "Timeless Romance," a concert by the orchestra and chorus, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in Aurora University's Crimi Auditorium, 1347 Prairie St.
