College of Lake County board announces new President, Dr. Lori M. Suddick
The College of Lake County Board of Trustees will name Dr. Lori M. Suddick as its new president during the regular Dec. 19 board meeting.
She has served since 2009 as the vice president of learning and chief academic officer for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, a multi-campus college, serving about 8,000 students in Green Bay, Wis.
Dr. Suddick has 18 years of experience working in two-year college leadership and faculty roles. She has presented at the national and state level on multiple topics including student success, integrated advising, systemic engagement of faculty, K12 partnerships, flexible adult learning and alignment of credentials with the labor market needs. Dr. Suddick was one of 40 exceptional leaders selected to the 2016-2017 inaugural Aspen Presidential Fellowship for Community College Excellence. She earned her Ed.D. from the University of Wisconsin Stout, as well as an M.A. and a B.S. in speech and language pathology from Eastern Michigan University.
"The board was very impressed with the applicants, especially the finalists, and has full confidence that Dr. Suddick will be an outstanding president to help us continue our mission of providing a quality education to the community," said Board Chair Richard A. Anderson, adding that details about salary are pending. The new president is expected to start May 1 and work on priority projects including launching a new strategic plan and a new master plan, Anderson explained.
Dr. Suddick said, "I am elated for the opportunity to serve as College of Lake County's next president and thank the Board of Trustees for its confidence in my leadership. CLC is an excellent institution. I look forward to engaging with the community and working with the college's outstanding faculty and staff to serve the educational needs of Lake County residents."
Dr. Suddick and her family plan to move to the Lake County region.
Interim President Dr. Rich Haney said, "I'm excited about Dr. Suddick joining CLC as our next president, and I look forward to working with her on a smooth transition." He plans to retire in May 2018.
Anderson added, "On behalf of the board, a big thank you to Dr. Haney and the executive team for doing an outstanding job during this transition period."
Anderson also thanked the presidential advisory search committee, comprised of groups from throughout the college, including students, faculty, staff, Board Vice Chair Dr. Catherine M. Finger and Secretary Barbara D. Oilschlager, plus community members. The committee initially reviewed 38 applicants, narrowed the field to 11 semi-finalists who were interviewed, then selected five finalists. All leaders at Midwestern community colleges, the finalists were interviewed by the Board of Trustees and appeared at community forums on campus the week of Nov. 13.
